Do you feel like you don’t have anything to wear but a closet full of clothes?  If that sounds like you then it’s time to minimize your wardrobe and get your closet organized.  Of course the 5 Rules to a Clutter Free Home apply to all simplifying projects including closet organization.  I’ve also listed 6 closet specific questions to make closet purging even easier for you.  Ask these questions and you are on your way, taking your closet from chaotic to composed.

When I tackle a closet I like to take everything off the shelves, out of the drawers and off the rods. Once everything is out wipe off the shelves and run the vacuum while the space is empty.   Now it’s time to pick up each item and ask yourself the following questions.

6 Questions to Ask Yourself When Purging Your Closet

  1. Does it still fit? Is it free from stains and in working order?
  2. Condition – Is it in good condition?
  3. Style – Is it still in style, would I buy it again today?
  4. Is it MY style?
  5. Do I feel good when I wear it?
  6. Have I worn it in the last year?

It’s pretty straightforward, (unless it’s your wedding dress!) if the answer was NO to any of the questions, the item in your hand goes into the toss or donate pile.  That’s right, when you answer “NO” it’s time to say goodbye to that piece of clothing in your hand.

If you answer yes to all the questions then back in the closet it goes.  Once you have the items you are keeping selected sort them into like piles.   Purchase new hangers, baskets and/or bins as needed for more efficient organizing.  Closet Organizing Products
