And I usually answer listener questions for episode 11. I have combined a few questions that have come in over the last couple of weeks, and they all are all about feeling bogged down and overwhelmed in regards to everything that has to be done right now or in your home or the abundance of physical possessions and belongings are making you question where to start or how to start eliminating the unnecessary and your home or the unnecessary things that are surrounding you so that you can feel more at peace and relaxed in your homes. Instead of giving you a, how to guide or a tutorial today, I’m taking a bit of a different approach. And this episode being that it’s just before Thanksgiving and the season of giving, I’m asking you to take a few minutes and change your mindset and attitude. When it comes to decluttering, organizing, purging, and creating this simple home life that you’re desiring, of course, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you don’t feel at peace in your living space.
Beginning of project can be the hardest part. And as people we can often talk ourselves out of things that are uncomfortable or hard, even when we know the end result is beneficial. Sometimes just starting is the most difficult part. We know we’ll be thankful in the end, once we’ve achieved that goal, but actually doing the work and getting started can be so difficult that sometimes just because we’re humans, we don’t even start. We don’t take that initiative. It feels too overwhelming. So we just don’t do it changing the way that you’re thinking your mindset from that lake icky exhausted. This is going to be a lot of work attitude to a more of an attitude of gratitude approach, where you are thankful and grateful for what you have and for the outcome that you’re going to have as a result. Once you complete this accomplishment, if you can think in terms of how you will feel, once you get it done, it completely changes your mindset and outlook on a project.
Let’s have some examples. If you have gone to college and you earned a degree, or you’ve gone back to school that requires focus, work determination. It’s a lot of work while it’s happening, but the accomplishment is worth it. And the success that can come from those credentials is rewarding. But think about a weight loss goal or a physical accomplishment, maybe you want to run a marathon or a half marathon. The struggle is worth it. Once you reach the finish line, if you can make a conscious effort to shift the frustrated and overwhelmed feeling, you have to the sense of calm and accomplishment. Once you once, whatever you’re desiring is complete. Try to imagine the feeling of freedom and the relief that you will feel once you’re over this hurdle and your house is becoming, or it has finally become the simplified and organized home that you’ve been desiring.
Let me give you some examples of how you can shift your frustrated idea that you don’t know where to start, or you don’t want to start because it’s so overwhelming to a more grateful mindset where you’re thankful for the end result and reaping the benefits of your hard work. Instead of saying, I need to organize my house, or I need to get rid of all this junk, or I have to get all this organized, switch it to something positive. I’m organizing my kitchen and it feels great to donate all of these items. We no longer use and finally have a clutter-free counter or maybe something like I’m happy. We were able to go through this closet and give the items. We no longer use to a family that can actually use them and needs them. Another one might be it’s wonderful to be able to park in the garage after all these years and not have to wait for the ice to melt off the windshield in the winter.
I’m thankful that the garage is clean and clutter-free space, and I will be more mindful of what we allow in this space, in the future. Those are just some ways of changing your mindset. So you’re, you’re switching from, it’s a have to do something or you need to do something where it becomes overwhelming to thinking about what is the result? Why do you want to do something? What is the result that you’re looking for change the way that you’re phrasing these things with the end result in mind, your desire for a clean, organized, simplified home is more than possible. I have watched, and I’ve helped and coached many people to create these homes that they’re desiring with less clutter and more of a calm, desirable feeling. So it’s absolutely possible for you to, of course you have to do the work to get to that point.
It would be nice if we could just snap our fingers, but that’s not the reality. And you have to do the work just like you have to do it for anything that you want. A fitness school education saving for a big purchase. Doing the work is easier when you have a positive attitude and you’re working toward your goal, thinking and envisioning that end result. You don’t want to focus on that nagging feeling of what is needing to be done to get there, but switch and have those, the positive feelings and attitude of gratitude. Be mindful, really focus on what will happen at the end and how you will feel when those results are accomplished. Positive thoughts and a positive attitude really energize us well, negative thoughts bring us down and they keep us stagnant. This is giving season we’re in November. Give yourself the gift of a positive outlook and mindset.
Really imagine your home’s clutter-free filled with love and making memories. When you catch yourself thinking and seeing phrases with negativity behind them, like I have to do blah, blah, blah, take a few seconds to rephrase your thoughts, envisioning that end result and feel how great it feels to be in that place or that space when you’re thankful for what you have done and the atmosphere that you’ve created for yourself and your family and all the people in your life to enjoy and to feel good in. If you’re celebrating this year, I hope you have a peaceful Thanksgiving enjoying this time and making memories with your family and friends.
